The most common cause of Frame Rate issues is client settings. This article will walk you through restoring all defaults to ensure you do not have any obscure settings causing issues.

The SWG Restoration client allows you to "over-max" your settings (i.e., increasing them beyond the recommended value for playing) to do things like record video or take high quality screenshots. Over-maxed settings aren't meant to be used during normal playing and can cause frame rate lag. We recommend experimenting with each option discussed below to find the right balance for the best gameplay experience and visuals that works for you and your computer.

Checking your Frame Rate

To check your frame rate, select the Options icon

(default Keybinding is O)

On the "Misc" tab, check the "Show Network Status Window" box. A new box will appear in your UI that displays your "FPS."

Reviewing Graphic Settings Step-by-Step

With the client open, select the Options icon

(default Keybinding is O)

On the "Graphics" tab, check your Particle Limit. The default value is 2048. You can see the value by hovering your cursor over the rectangle slider.

Next, scroll down to check the following settings:

We recommend disabling the "Fade Objects," "Cross-Fade Levels of Detail," "Use Low Detail for Distant Characters," and "Enable Character Lod Manager" settings and enabling the "Simple Camera Collision (Faster)" setting.

Scrolling down further, adjust the Level of Detail settings for Static Objects, Characters, and the Particle System. The default setting is to have these values at 2.

Note: Generally, the Particle System Level of Detail is non-problematic, and some areas will not render all of their effects properly if you do not increase this value. Experiment with this setting to find the right balance.

Next click on the Terrain tab.

Every setting on the Terrain tab can have a significant impact on your client's performance.

The Global Terrain Detail (default is 8) slider controls the overall detail of the terrain and terrain objects. The second slider, the Terrain High Detail Range (default is 30) controls how far away from you the terrain's high detail attributes (including additional flora, like rocks and trees) render. Both of these settings can greatly impact your graphical performance if they are too high.

The flora options control whether, and how far away flora will appear. Generally, you can keep both "Render Distant Radial Flora" and "Render non-colliable flora" checked.

The default "Non-Collidable Flora Draw Distance" is 128, but you can generally extend it. This extends how far away small bushes and plants will appear.

You can leave the "Render Nearby Radial Flora" option checked. The Radial Flora setting controls the appearance of grass and small flowers. The "Near Radial Flora Draw Distance" slider can generally be increased beyond it's default value of 64.

When you're done making changes, be sure to click "OK" to save them.

Adjusting Client Options

If after changing the above settings you still encounter issues, you can try two other options. In the game launcher, select "Launcher and Game Settings" then click the "Game Settings" button. You can try toggling options in the "Graphics," "Game," and "Advanced" tabs. If none of that works, you can also try selecting the "Reset in-game options" and restarting the client to see if that resolves your issue.
