What Operating Systems are supported?
SWG Restoration runs on Windows 10 or higher. The client is not supported to run on Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP as we only support operating systems that are still within the Microsoft Long-Term Support Lifecycle. We do not currently support non-Windows operating systems (e.g., macOS or Linux) nor do we support running the game under an embedded third-party support extension (e.g., Wine or Parallel). When I press "Play" in the launcher, nothing happens, or I see the spinning mouse wheel but then the game never actually launches.
There are two common causes of this issue: (1) The client does not have the elevated permissions it needs to run for the first time; or (2) the game resolution is not correctly configured which is preventing it from launching.Resolution 1 - Ensure the client has been run with "Run as Administrator" at least once.
- Open the folder where you installed SWG Restoration (if you did not change the installation folder when installing, the default location is C:\SWG Restoration).
- Find the file called "SwgClient_r.exe" and right-click then select "Run as Administrator" as pictured below.
- If the client starts successfully, close the client and then re-launch the game by clicking "Play" from the launcher.
Resolution 2 - Ensure the Game Resolution is Correct
- Open the folder where you installed SWG Restoration (if you did not change the installation folder when installing, the default location is C:\SWG Restoration).
- Find the file called "SwgClientSetup_r.exe" and double click to open it.
- When the SwgClientSetup window appears, click the Graphics tab, then adjust your Game Resolution. You may need to make multiple adjustments to this setting until the game launches under your desired resolution.
- For additional troubleshooting, you may also want to optionally enable "Windowed Mode" and/or "Borderless Window" depending on your desired setup and monitor configuration.
The in-game User Interface is very small and hard to read
Computers running Windows 10 or 11 with high-resolution monitors may run into limitations with how the User Interface can be properly scaled. We're working on a fix for this, but in the meantime, you may need to disable high DPI features. You can do this following the steps below:- Open the folder where you installed SWG Restoration (if you did not change the installation folder when installing, the default location is C:\SWG Restoration).
- Find the file called "SwgClient_r.exe" and right-click, then select "Properties"
- On the "Compatibility" tab, click the "Change high DPI settings" button.
- Check the "Use this setting to fix scaling problems for this program instead of the one in Settings" box. Under the "Use the DPI that's set for my main display when" dropdown, select "I signed in to Windows".
- Check the "Override high DPI scaling behavior. Scaling performed by:" and in the dropdown select "System".
- Click OK to close the DPI settings window and OK again to close the Properties window.
- Restart the game from the launcher.
