Adding Theft to the Game

Proposal
Lets add Theft to the Game.

here is the initial idea that came to mind pitting a crafter against smuggler.

The smuggler has the ability of slicing a Harvester, factory, maybe a vendor with ability to
steal either or both from the maintenance pool and the resource hopper.

Several, side games and mini games that could be implemented is as follows

1. The crafter can insure his harvester, maintenance pool, and resources protecting himself, this
is an added cost of doing business and can be transferred to customers.

2. Other crafters like an Architect or droid engineer can craft locks or password protected items
that can be placed on harvesters or factory to harden the structure from theft.

3. The smuggler becomes vulnerable to attack if he is caught in the act of slicing by the crafter or anyone
who is on administration of the structure like a combat character.

4. a crafter can hire a Ranger to come do the "investigation" of the theft. he can use track humanoid to see who was in the
area and discover the thief, a separate mini game can be done that will help him find who the thief is.

5. Both the crafter and the Ranger can place a bounty on the smuggler to find him / bounty hunter can collect the credit and resources
or kill the smuggler and collect the bounty. smuggler can agree to pay the BH or fight it out.

6. Smugglers can start a cartel or gang who dedicate themselves to cracking the safes on harvesters of factories.
Smugglers get bonuses if they are in a gang and also get a bonus if they work in a group to hack or crack a "safe/harvesters"

7. a crafter can set a droid to notify the crafter when its being hacked. It can also set a droid to spawn and guard the harvester.

8. Incentive for crafter to be apart of this system..... if the smuggler is killed he can be looted. ~ InfiniBand Idea.

9. Crafters can also be apart of a crafter guild who can view other crafter harvesters or factories and assist them in defending/protecting their property. "Call in the Calvary" ! ~ Jorran idea.

Id like a critique of this idea plus any other ideas would be welcome.
Justification
Justification Hmmm.. Realism theft is part of the real world and part of the star wars world. Scum and Villainy.
Motivation
I was trying to come up with a way for crafter to be apart of combat, utilizing various mechanics that already are in game.

This is already in the game. Become friends with someone. Get put on admin. Steal their stuff. Leave. Just seems like a way to weaken the community and piss off other players. I don't see it going anywhere. Sorry. If you want a crafter that can do combat, that's what the NGE did...

You cant be added to the admin of a harvester or vendor at the moment it would need to be added.
 
I feel like I was a bit harsh on my reply yesterday, and I want to apologize for that. However, I think there is potential in this idea, PROVIDING that this is an optional undertaking. If this is activated in a manner similar to pvp (using a command that flags you), then it could have potential. A lot of people would be extremely annoyed, myself included if theft was forced upon us, no matter how "realistic" the idea is. However, if it was something you could opt into for additional rewards, and opt out at will (or via an NPC in a major settlement to make it more fair), I could see this going somewhere.

I like the idea of ranger getting some love, but I understand they are focusing on more of the Spy playstyle from the NGE (Correct me if I misheard). However, I don't think adding this to the game will boost ranger numbers sadly. I almost wish ranger was back to the old ways until it gets revamped... They were the only ones who could access the big luxury camps, they had tracking, they had group terrain negotiation, etc... Just reverting to that playstyle would give Rangers some love again. Anyone remember setting up camps outside the cities for survival xp?

I really like the idea, but it should be made optional, as all other parts of "PvP" in this game is. I defo suggest the following addition:

Look to the current Special Forces system and the Holiday Events.
When a crafter places a harvester he decides if it should be "SF" / marked for raiding. If he chooses so, the BER goes up from for instance 15 til 25 or something like that. (just like when doing the various holiday quests).

If the crafter chooses not to, its just vanilla BER. and with no risk of raiding.

Include a set amount of materials / energy / credits that can be stolen and a cool.down timer between raiding, so its not possible to loose everything, but at most risk getting for instance 25 / 50 % less than they would have had without the SF toggled on.

That way its optional to partake, and there's a potential reward for doing so in terms of much higher BER while you take a risk.
 
Just out of curiosity socalcbd are you a smuggler that is looking for more things to do in game? i am just trying to get more information before i reply with a response.
 
Drueric had a similar crafter pvp idea and I’m sorry this just doesn’t need to be in the game.
I am very much opposed to any idea of my architect needing to be a part of pvp of any type or combat of any type.
I’m not bored on my architect or needing this to be a thing.
If you are bored as smuggler, then sure let’s think of some stuff. I just don’t think having a smuggler steal all of my factory goods appeals to me in any way.

This has been suggested a couple of times and it is not wanted my crafters we ahve enough to do without having to worry about someone messing with our harvesters
