Allow temporary faction switches for battlefields

Proposal
Allow players to choose their faction when entering battlefield and temporarily switch just for that fight. They would earn coins for their actual faction, not the faction they're currently playing in the battlefield fight.
Justification
FUN we want to pvp and sometimes we can't because things are so lopsided.
Motivation
FUN we want to be able to pvp _whenever_ there are more than 2 players.
One issue with battlefields is that sometimes there's 8 imperial and 2 rebel players that want to do a fight.

If we could switch factions just for that battle we could do a lot more pvp by evening up the teams in situations like this. We could also balance the teams by having top tier pvpers evenly distributed for a given fight.

By also distributing players new to pvp their early experiences would be 10x better. You wouldn't have one side just crushing the other instantly.

I don't know how battlefields work with neutrals but. Maybe we could just keep group together when entering and just make it team vs team. The groups would have TEF to each other.

Do Battlefields even need to have a factional component? At their core, would it matter if we just let people queue up and assigned them either randomly or based on their group?
I guess some of the die hard RP'rs would want to stay in their factions, but it would be great to also have the option to just nominate yourself as a random and let the system assign the teams if possible, yeah.

I don't think they do need it, in the interest of PvP and group formation. I would prefer if you could just select a team (red vs blue) and get granted generic battlefield tokens instead of faction specific tokens, which you can spend at whichever faction vendor you want.

Opens a lot more options for team selections imo. If new players are trying battlefields (which they are), we can adjust the teams accordingly dependent on experience level as well as profession synergy.

Think its a good idea, currently have people sitting out regularly that could be participating.

Server is still too small for the factional requirements really. And yeah, would have to be paired with the generic tokens.

If it impacts the GCW in any shape or form i.e gives better weapons, an advantage or control of an area then yes it matters.

Could be alleviated if you had mirror instances that act as battlefield training zones.

This has nothing to do with RP, it just feels like a slippery slope for the GCW as a whole.

Just for some context behind the battlefield rewards, the armour given is just good for appearance, it doesn't offer any additional stats.

The ranged weapons have the same damage bonus as the invasion weapons - there are some PvP modifiers on the weapon but currently they do not persist when recrafted, not to mention the weapons are energy type damage anyway.

The melee weapons are currently the same the WoD melee weapons, with the exception being the polearm, which is energy damage. These weapons also lose the stat bonus' when recrafted so don't offer anything extra currently. When used raw, even with the modifiers, the weapons deal less damage than a high-end crafted weapon.

Reward wise, I don't think that this will give either side an advantage, in the grand scheme of things.

From a region control, perspective you raise a good point - each BF currently has a GCW region associated with it. This would probably need to be removed if the factional restriction was to be lifted (or absorbed by a different contestable GCW region).

An important thing to note is this enables battefields to happen. All other GCW activites can happen regardless of participation.

Right now the solution is for people to have a character of both factions (which is both annoying and was a major putoff for myself when checking out "other large NGE emu project servers".) Everyone over there has a character on each faction for battlefields which really lowers factional identity.

If we could make it so people can just stay their preferred faction across all their characters and queue for whichever side needs the people, it would actually help maintain factional identity.

I totally get the argument and rationale, but we are playing a Star Wars game and not Fortnight. What’s interesting to me is that Rebels can outnumber imperials during city invasions, so why are battlefields a turn off (what’s the root issue)?

Maybe instanced fights just don’t work for Resto and the rewards should be moved to the faction recruiters for GCW tokens?
