Proposal
Equipping Appearance should HIDE your robe and cloak, but when you are inspected by policing npc's and uncovered it should generate visibility then.
Justification
Unless npc's have x ray vision, if you have a layer of clothing covering what you are wearing, it shouldn't be readily apparent what you are wearing exactly until a closer inspection is performed.
Motivation
To make generating visibility for a Jedi to make more sense, instead of some reason randomly pulled out of your butt.
Equipping Appearance should HIDE your robe and cloak, but when you are inspected by policing npc's and uncovered it should generate visibility then.

Equipping appearance is basically transmog. it gives you all the benefits of the gear equipped underneath so appearance aside if there is a downside it should apply just the same.

Equipping appearance yes could be considered transmog, but it is also a costume, or even a disguise to a certain degree. I already stated a downside, and that downside is an inspection from policing factions can generate visibility. For example; wearing body armor underneath a tuxedo. To the normal viewer it's just a tuxedo, but after a closer look maybe you can spot the body armor. I just think that's a narrow minded outlook on this whole idea.

You can wear armor over armor with equip appearence. usually stuff that you couldn't fit into each other it's a mechanic that was intented for cosmetic use. You can also use it to equip armour for looks without hinderance even if you don't have the necessary skills for it.

This is not a case of wearing a low profile kevlar vest under a suit it's wearing a whole outfit under another one.

I know this isn't a case of real life physics Bill Nye the Senator guy. I was just giving an example. It's a video game, and physics don't always apply.

Let's discuss Sliced armor and weapons then..... You can argue most players use those, and they are considered illegal. Why doesn't the Empire know any of that gear is illegal automatically just by looking at it? It's the same concept actually. I'm just asking for just about the same consistency applied to Jedi and their gear. Why isn't sliced gear not putting people on the bounty hunter boards?

I'm confused, it sounds like you want wearing a robe to be a reason to generate visibility? Currently you only get visibility for shooting off with the force or having the mark of a jedi(lightsaber) equipped. You're asking to disable visibility for something that does not generate visibility by being able to hide equipped items fully?

You know what, you may be right, for right now, but I was led to believe that it was planned for the future that cloaks and robes will be giving visibility. If that is true then I stand by this thread, if it isn't then disregard.

You are companring a miniscule and not outwardly visible modification of weapons and armor to putting clothing over a whole other set of clothing they are not the same thing. Just like irl wearing a whole ass plate carrier under a hoodie is very conspicuous compared to dropping a full auto sear into the trigger group of a semi auto rifle. Appearence equipping mechanically is transmog where you can wear skin tight bodysuits over full plate armor.

We currently have no intention of adding visibility from robes or cloaks, in part because of the inconsistencies you've described, but also because we feel appearance from wardrobe is a cosmetic choice, and punishing players for their style isn't fun.

Thank you for clarifying that.
