This idea/suggestion has been flagged as Implemented so it has (or will be) implemented into the game in some capacity. More information can be found in the post from the development team.
I haven't tested but it *feels* like there is a difference of how many waypoints per 1% here full on datapads compared to pre cu.
However, another consideration, droids do have a data storage module - something to keep in mind as well.

There is already a system in place to allow droids to hold datapad slots(150 slots with droid data 6) but they don't seem to work atm. I think it would be better to fix the droids to allow datapad storage rather than increase datapad storage outright.
Datapad slots are good for crafters and their many manufacturing schematics. But datapad slots are not the same as waypad slots, even though they are both tabs in the same game window.
Lol, I'm pretty sure the literally "data" are waypoints, so you can move them into your Droid Data Storage, which no lie is pretty cool. I kinda think the waypoint increase isn't needed, but making it more clear/easier for players to get a Datapad item that can hold another 100 points, or droids that have Data storage is a good one too.
Nope, they are different. Look at your datapad. Two tabs. Data and Waypoints. Data can go in a droid. Waypoints cant.
Then I stand corrected, sorry! I never did it myself, but saw a video of someone giving waypoints to their Droid, like drag and drop style. I thought it was something from old-school SWG/NGE.
