Proposal
Remove factional restrictions from all wearable containers (backpack)

Add factional emblems to backpacks to impose factional restrictions.

These Items are still purchased by recruiters in order to facilitate sales of GCW tokens. But restriction is removed on craft.
Justification
Factional restrictions on backpacks prevents neutral players like myself and those uninterested in role-playing, the inability to create more aesthetically pleasing character appearances.

Its forcing players to roll a specific faction, just for the skins.

(Example: The rebel infiltration backpack is the best looking backpack, currently worn by rebels only)

In a world where opposing faction players can live in opposing faction houses with opposing faction decorations, where imperial players can wear rebel Endor helmets, Jedi can live in sith spires and rebels can live in an AT-AT houses.

Mandalorian armor has already had its class restriction removed as a example.

My immediate proposal is to remove all factional restrictions on back packs.

Then in future:

I propose that crafters can implement factional logos in order to create restrictions on all backpacks.

Otherwise every backpack is considered neutral without any logo and can be worn by any faction.
Motivation
Modernising the server to allow players a greater variation of customisation.

In a server that already allows such cross factional customization in other areas. It’s time to share the best skins between everyone, but give those who are dedicated imps/rebels the opportunity to announce there loyalty.

Thanks for your consideration

So my problem with this is — to what end? Do the sandtrooper backpacks become available to everyone? Is this a slippery slope to “anyone should be able to be a stormtrooper?”

Most of the examples you provide have additional context as to why we wouldn’t restrict them — Jedi isn’t a faction, and Jedi/Sith don’t exist. It’s just the name of the object. Same for the spires, they aren’t actually factional, it’s like the name of the color scheme not the name of who owns it. The AT-AT house is a downed AT-AT, that is, anyone could have destroyed it/survived it and moved in. Class restrictions are different because we don’t have a strict class hierarchy and there’s no lore based reason anyone wouldn’t be able to acquire it when the in world reason for it being attainable is accessible by anyone.

It sounds like you just want more backpack options, and this happens to be your aesthetical choice of preference, but that doesn’t justify removing a restriction from active duty uniform sets. Faction based uniforms serve a specific purpose for folks to identify with the military they serve.

That said, I’m not opposed to the idea of creating wearables that have different appearances based on the faction of the user. The problem is, that becomes a slippery slope (see previous comments). And is it fair and balanced to make a backpack from the rebels accessible so it effectively undervalues the exclusivity of the set when we don’t do the same for Imperials? What would the standard be and how would it scale?

The considerations are never as simple as just removing a restriction from an item.
