Reverse Engineering

Reverse Engineering

Proposal
A game mechanic that allows more junk loot to be gathered for the person who is RE.
Justification
Very time consuming and boring to gather the junk loot necessary to RE.
Motivation
Have more people willing to RE and have attachments available at a reasonable price. (Right now, there is no price that could get me to RE even one suit. I can see it taking months to gather enough loot to do so.)
Reverse Engineering (RE) takes a whole lot of junk loot to do. Because of changes made in Restoration to the loot drop and other aspects of the game, it seems to me that it must be nearly impossible to RE. I did a lot of RE in the SOE game. I gathered the junk loot by finding a mob and setting up a macro to afk kill and loot the NPC mob. Of course, this can no longer be done and it has to have a very negative impact on the persons who provide the RE service. Several things have impacted the RE player from gathering junk loot. You cannot run a macro afk because at random times, the game will dump it. If you are AFK for more than 15 minutes, you will be logged off, and the loot drop rates are very low making it nearly impossible to gather the needed amount of junk loot even when you are actively playing and not using any macros. I think I understand the reasons for the changes, i.e. making players actually play the game and having the game play be at a slower pace to name a couple and I don't even know if there are more. But there are some things that just get too boring to do. Running around killing NPC to maybe pick up one piece of junk loot after every 5 kills (and I have no idea what the drop rate is, this may be too generous) so that you can do another boring task - RE, is a little too much. There has to be some way of allowing persons who want to RE do the job without messing up other aspects of the game. There are a lot of people here who know the game and have a brain (do you like my rhyme, lol). So why not brain storm and see if we can figure this out?

I am not sure what the proposed change is here. Are you suggesting we allow AFK farming of junk loot like on Live? Or are you wanting to open a dialog with others to come up with a solution to the problem of junk loot gathering being too boring? It's not clear to me what the exact proposal is here.

RE is an end game content
Back when I started doing RE, I was struggling to collect all the junks needed to grind bits and to create the most uncommon exotics.
So I had to farm it a lot, do some trade with other players, put contractors on it to scavenge junks for me…
And now I’ve done all these things, I understand why there’s some value on RE stuff.
It is not supposed to be cheap or affordable and to be honest, I’m not sure that making an easier way to get more junks will help about anything, because the current situation will push you to interact with other players if you want outstanding results. And that is exactly how the economy is supposed to work in my opinion :)

Can you afk farm junk loot??? If so, how? I am wanting to open a dialog to see if there is a solution to it being so time consuming to gather junk loot to RE with. There are at least three things that have been changed in the game that are making it very time consuming - Macro dumps, getting kicked after 15 minutes of being afk, and the very very low drop rate of all loot. There has to be some way of allowing players to gather junk loot for RE and not disrupting the goals of the three changes that were put into the game.

The solution is to buy loot from many different people and be able to make all kinds of different modifier bits as needed.
Your complaint is that is too hard for someone who only wants to make one modifier bit to gather what's needed. You have no guarantee that x loot will drop from y mob at z location. So you're asking if we can make it that easy for you.
It's not supposed to be that easy. It's supposed to be hard. Each player is not supposed to be able to run a few quests in a play session and be able to make an SEA for their armor or weapon. The average player is supposed to buy their SEAs from a player that worked their ass off for the last several months to be in a position to supply SEAs on request. It only becomes easy to make SEAs after you have put in the hard work to get to the point where it is easy. And only one in 80-100 players will do that work. That's the way it's supposed to be.

He is asking for improved "junk" loot chance for people that have a 'reverse engineer' skill, I think similar to how smugglers can bring up a radial and search for loot.

The way to farm junk is semi-afk farm it, usually dual boxing. Or you can run missions and then simply buy the junk from people that choose to farm it.

Even with more (or cheaper) junk loot and stat loot available on the market, the effort to grind power bits up to +35 is still the same and still a hell of a grind. Given that all of that is manual labor and not done by a factory, macro or anything else, the SEAs on the market are still quite affordable, if not cheap, imho.
You can esily grind 1mil+/h (during non double times, now it's even more!) in a spin group purely with mission payouts + all the extra credits you can get from all the loot, collection, ISOs, Resources, and what ever. Or grind in space and sell the parts.
This is always my baseline to how I value thing.
So grinding 27 Powerbits to +35 and making a full set of 35 SEAs should be rated at a price that's a least comparable to the amount of credits you could make in that time in combat.

Newb question here. After I reverse engineer some space loot, is there anywhere to sell it other than to players? The chassis broker doesn't care for it, even though it is better after I tinker with it. And I would hate to dest it if there is another way to make a few creds of it. Thank you

You pretty much described how its designed. SEA's are not meant to be cheap. If cheap SEA's are needed post it in the trade channel on discord and I can see about throwing together some +30's. I have no issues getting junk loot. I just buy it. This is what factors into the prices for the +35's. If you want a better price join a good guild and farm the stuff.

In live, (and I know this is a bad word) I would gather stacks of junk loot of common items (maybe 20-30 different items) in stacks of 500 or more over several nights or maybe even a week. One night of farming for junk loot (afk and with a macro) I could fill my inventory and have stacks of 100-200 of 10 or more items. I have been trying to gather junk loot again the past few days. I have been semi-afk in an effort to keep things running, I am not sure how many hours I have been at this, but I would estimate over the past 2 days, about 12-18 hours. I just looked in my inventory and I have 5 stacks of items with anywhere from 21-27 items in each stack. If I am lucky, that will be enough to make 2-3 35's, or one SEA. My goal is to try and get some stacks of 50. I need to use one of my characters full-time to get to RE to make the armor suits for guildmates that need them (and I don't do this for credits, once in a while I will sell some, but not very often). And yes, they help gather the junk loot. If the goal is to make things slower and boring as hell, the goal has been accomplished. I would think the drop rate for the junk loot could be increased some and leave the rate for everything else where it is.
