Visibility is a Jedi-specific mechanic and is generated when you do things as a Jedi. It can be effectively thought of as the amount of attention you’ve attracted to yourself.
When you reach certain thresholds of visibility, you’ll engage and alert the world around you, creating more danger for yourself and others. Visibility follows you through both ground and space, and will put a target on the back of not just you, but anyone around you as well if you aren’t careful.
There is no way for a Jedi to know what their exact visibility is without the help of certain NPCs or by gauging any
visibility consequences that they may experience.
Unattackable NPCs who have a favorable attitude and environment towards the Jedi will now either alert you to your visibility level or even help you reduce it. You will find these NPCs all over the game (such as Commoners), and the circumstances that factor into their opinions of Jedi will change along with their environment. Things like factional control, your visibility level, attributes about themselves or your character, and so on are all considered.
If you encounter a friendly NPC, you will see one of the following effects above their head for a short time:
- A warning symbol indicates you have a high visibility rating
Gaining Visibility
There are many ways that a Jedi may gain visibility in the open-world as well as inside of instances.
After reaching a certain visibility threshold, the player will need to deal with the
visibility consequences depending on that threshold.
There are two in-game indicators available to Jedi, when they are at the risk of gaining visibility;
?Visibility? and
+Visibility+.
- When you see +Visibility+, your visibility has increased by some amount depending on your activity
- When you see ?Visibility?, you have one minute to enter combat with the NPC that witnessed the activity or it will turn into the +Visibility+ indicator and your visibility will increase depending on the activity
Note: You will not see these indicators when you get reported by a Player
Below is a table that breaks down the point-to-activity ratio for visibility gain.
Points | Activity |
---|
3 per 5 Minutes | Humanoid NPC sees a Jedi holding a Lightsaber or having a Jedi buff active* |
3 per 5 Minutes | Humanoid NPC sees a Jedi using non-combat abilities (e.g. meditating, healing) |
5 per Combat | Humanoid NPC sees a Jedi using combat abilities |
25 per Report | A Player observes you using Jedi abilities and uses the command to report you (player can report once every 15 minutes) |
100 per Report | A Player observes you using Jedi abilities and uses the command to report you while paying a fee for premium escalation to local authorities (player can report once every 15 minutes) |
* Meditation buffs are not included
Visibility Scaling
It is important to note, that visibility gain
scales based on the number of
friendly/aligned Jedi in your immediate vicinity. A
friendly/aligned Jedi is a Jedi that you can heal and/or buff.
- For every friendly/aligned Jedi, visibility gain is doubled up to four Jedi
The visibility scaling formula is as follows:
visibility gained = visibility from activity * 2 ^ (number of friendly Jedi)
For example;
If you were to gain 100 visibility from a Player report, and there were two other Jedi near you, the visibility gain would actually be 400.
400 = 100 * 2 * 2
Given that the visibility scaling is maximized at four friendly/aligned Jedi, the maximum visibility you would be able to gain would be 1,600.
1,600 = 100 * 2 * 2 * 2 * 2
Reducing Visibility
Jedi also have many ways to reduce visibility. However, dropping below visibility thresholds, does not guarantee that every
visibility consequence will be removed. If the Jedi happens to become a Force Ghost, their visibility becomes zero.
Similar to the in-game indicators for gaining visibility, there is also an in-game indicator for when the Jedi loses visibility;
-Visibility-
- When you see -Visibility-, your visibility has decreased by some amount depending on your activity
Below is a table that breaks down the point-to-activity ratio for visibility loss.
Points | Activity |
---|
1 per Minute | While logged off |
5 per 10 Seconds | Watching an Entertainer who has the Force Veil stats from the Enhanced Senses tree |
10 per Minute | While you are online and inside a Safe Haven (the Path) |
50 per Minute | Meditating at your assigned Force Shrine |
100 per Use | Accepting shelter from a friendly NPC* |
200 per Mission | Complete a Terminal Mission without using Jedi Skills/Abilities (point value scales down if completed in less than 4 minutes) |
2000 | Defeating all bounty hunters who have initiated combat against you |
* A hooded figure icon indicates they are willing to help you hide. Radial them and select "Accept shelter"
Visibility Consequences
After gaining enough visibility, there will be consequences introduced to the Jedi that they will have to deal with. These consequences range from being insulted by NPCs to being hunted by Player Bounty Hunters, and even encountering Darth Vader.
Below is a table that breaks down the consequences based on the visibility threshold.
Points | Impact |
---|
1000 |
- NPCs become "aware" of you and begin to engage with you
- The NPCs will say something in spatial chat regarding you being a Jedi
|
2000 |
- A Specialist NPC attacks you
- Difficulty is scaled by FRS Rank
|
3000 |
- You are added to the Player Bounty Board*
- You face environmental consequences:
- You cannot use shuttles
- You are able to use the Mustafar travel shuttle
- You cannot use your Instant Travel Vehicle (ITV)
|
4000 |
- You will have an encounter with one or more of Vader's Inquisitors
- An Inquisitor is a CL100 Boss Level NPC
- If you have a bounty, Bounty Hunters will receive a Breaching Charge which will eject the Jedi from a private structure when used**
|
5000 |
- Darth Vader will appear after you have encountered an Inquisitor more than 15 minutes ago
|
* Once you are on the Player Bounty Board, you will remain on it, even if you lower your visibility below the threshold
** If the Jedi drops below 4,000 visibility and still has a bounty, Bounty Hunters will no longer receive a Breaching Charge
