Droid Engineer that cant use there own droids

Droid Engineer that cant use there own droids

Proposal
To have a crafter show there levels so they can use droids that they crafted for themselves. And for non droid engineers to be able to use a weapon to defend themselves.
Justification
To be a complete character.
Motivation
To be able to use your own crafted droids.
I have a master droid engineer and I'm not able to use my own droid because i have no combat levels. A crafter cant hold a high level weapon or use a high level droid to guard himself. i dont expect my crafter to do heroics. But it would be nice to be able to defend themselves from low level creatures and npc's.

I do agree that this feels odd... But there would need to be some carefully thought out limitations around this.

I guess it would be a separate PV but droid engineers being able to heal "repair" droids similar to the CH heal would be rad.

DE can use droids though, just not combat droids. Thats like a guy that can build a car but doesn't mean he's able to drive an F1.
Ya sort of my thoughts as well. Tho on legends I can use my armor and weapons. I would advocate to make levels not combat levels but rather character levels and allow traders same level as their combat counter part. Would solve several issues with one change.

As Scottyboy said as a Weaponsmith he cannot use any weapons either. But then do we really need to?

On live NGE we did get given levels so defending yourself at a Harvester or Factory was a benefit. However as we know R3 is a blend of CU/NGE, if they start giving us full on NGE stuff then it will turn into a full NGE version of the game.

I'm a Master DE too and if you want a combat Droid although mostly pointless make an R5 with a combat rating of 50 and no Armor it will be level 5 and usable by us!

The main thing I want is to be able to make Droideka's and Battle Droids without the silly NGE abilities. Hoping they come with Mustafar.

If a non combat character can use a high level combat droid to protect themselves, can my combat character get a high level DE droid and then make my own droids?

Bump. it would make when i hand sample in places easier to defend myself.
The only logical way to do this would be to give us levels. Yes we could use a combat droid but we would still die quickly from out low health pool etc.

If we get levels then that's a step towards an NGE SWG something R3 has tried hard to not to do.

I played on live from start to almost the finish and yes the level 90 traders found hand sampling easier because of that but its not impossible.

I would rather see stuff like Droid stats corrected so that they display properly to an active Droid. An example of this is a capped Droid in a vendor will show as having 6000 health but once activated its actually 3012.

i agree with crafters needing their own lvl system outside Combat levels if nothin else it would allow sampling in slightly tougher areas as mobs wouldnt aggro from 3 towns away. and droid engineers should be able to use their droids to protect them self while sampling if you ask me but i could take that or leave it

I think maybe instead of giving crafters combat levels we should maybe just remove CL requirements for droids. I mean, you don't have to know how to shoot a gun to use a droid. the same for PSGs and armor, you should be able to wear them but suffer the massive penalties from not having mitigation. all to help keep you alive while you look for resources.

I'm not sure I agree with this solution. This would cut out a bunch of useful droids at lower combat levels. Everyone would just use the highest level droid. I might agree with something like this for droid engineers only being able to use any droid.

I hear what you're saying, and I do agree. there should be some kind of level gate to avoid the issue, maybe professions can unlock droid certifications as they level up instead of it being based purely on CL, other crafters should get droids too, not just DE

If anything, surveying should give something towards a crafter leveling system -however they want to do it-. I don't know of anyone who has taken artisan that hasn't worked up and kept surveying IV as a skill. If they don't want to give levels, then perhaps the engineering tree can give certifications or mitigation to droid use. Droids in the Star Wars Galaxies are by all practicality sentient beings, so there could be a system of pushback against perceived weakness from a non-combatant vs. a combat skilled character.

I for one would go with the mitigation and leave crafters with no levels. I think it makes more sense and should be easier to implement with less wide range abuse.

Well then I say this. If where here only to provide droids to new players. Then when a droid gets defeated in combat then they should need a droid engineer to heal it like a doctor heals a combat character. Because once we sell a droid where not needed.
I haven't really gone into crafting yet so I don't know. Are Droid engineers the only ones who can make Droid batteries and repair kits? If not they should be. And I think Droid shouldn't regen health out of combat, repair kits should be necessary. But I don't want Droid engineers as characters to be the only way to refill the health bar.

Working Droid certifications into surveying sounds like the perfect solution to me. While still keeping the Droid CL limit for everyone else

But droids operate independently. You have to know how to use a blaster to put the shot where you want it effectively. Droid effectiveness is based entirely on the person who built and programmed it. The guy who can build a self driving f1 can certainly ride along while it does its thing.

I've said before that if you give us levels then you are pushing the game more towards a full NGE platform.

Yes levels help near high level mobs but being a few more meters away doesn't stop you from surveying either.

If you can pull mobs from three towns away I want to see it! I can have a level 50 mob on Lok stood the other side of a Harvester and I do not aggro it?

Droid Batteries I believe are made by any master artisan.

Crafters don't need levels or a Droid they can use other than crafting and sampling droids when Mustafar is live.

If you're constantly dieing on your crafter you are doing something wrong.

I just started a bio engineer working to creature handling why is my cl going up for that. So a pet owner can operate a high level droid but the droid engineer can’t.
