Droid Engineer that cant use there own droids

Droid Engineer that cant use there own droids
This idea/suggestion is Open. You can respond to ask questions or discuss the idea and either vote it up or down if you believe it should or should not be implemented, respectively. Popular suggestions and ideas will be considered by the development team to become reality in-game.
Proposal
To have a crafter show there levels so they can use droids that they crafted for themselves. And for non droid engineers to be able to use a weapon to defend themselves.
Justification
To be a complete character.
Motivation
To be able to use your own crafted droids.
I have a master droid engineer and I'm not able to use my own droid because i have no combat levels. A crafter cant hold a high level weapon or use a high level droid to guard himself. i dont expect my crafter to do heroics. But it would be nice to be able to defend themselves from low level creatures and npc's.

I don't feel my Architect needs any sort of levels nor do I need a combat droid. I do not believe as a crafter that I should have the ability to take out a rancor to place on dath or a huurton on Dantooine. I have managed to be a crafter for three versions of this game over 20 years and not once have I thought "damn, I really wish I had a combat droid right now"
I don't want to see artisans have the ability to do combat. Much like I don't want to see a jedi stopping mid fight saying "Give me a sec I think I really should be able to craft a ber 14 harvester right now"
I can dual log if there is ever an issue, but I just don't want to see artisans turn into combat classes.

Well.. Not sure how they haven't addressed the PV yet.. But this is coming via exotics one of the devs confirmed (the droid part)

I agree that crafters shouldn't be combat classes, and I didn't think giving them droids would do that. I didn't think they were powerful enough to accomplish that on their own. I'm only thinking about defense against hostile npcs while surveying. But as many have said I guess that's not an issue

Just MHO, but I consider it issue enough to think about dropping crafting over. I don't want to take my crafter out hunting, but I'd like to survive long enough to be able to get away when a mob zones in next to my harvester. And the person who said they had one standing on the other side of theirs just got lucky, because I got the fast train back into town after being knocked off my speeder in the same situation two days ago.

I was talking about the droid CL with my partner, and we agree that master artisans or elite crafter professions should be able to use droids cl60 without problem, it could be done as a skill for the master stats. So I'm a master shipwrigther cl1 or a master merchant cl1, but can have a personal bodyguard droid. Why not?

As a random thought, maybe us crafters need our own combat level equivalent? Artisan Level perhaps? And things like droids are keyed to either Artisan or Combat Level.

The CH spent points to handle pets with more lvl, it could be something like that with droids CL in the crafters skill tree

Not needed a CL that allows the crafter to use weapons or things like that, just an special trait to use droids.

But an artisan profession can learn a combat profession as well. This was true even in the original SWG. I did it myself. I was an architect as well as a pistoleer, just not a master pistoleer because it was limited. Here in R3 I actually can master both of them and still have points for something else. Im not suggesting that I want a droid but the proposal does make sense.

If you did have pistol skills, you would have CL, and then you could use a droid without any game unnecessary game changes.

So why does tamers get combat levels. There just tamers like in a traveling show. Why are they able to wear armor and hold a high level weapon. And honestly i dont want to hunt with my droid but would be nice to wear 80 armor with R3 version of luck on it. Would be nice to have a droid to take out pests that spawn around my harvesters. Tamers get all the love and droid engineers get held back. Oh and bio Engineer's also get cl. There just scientists. Medics who are suppose to heal people get credit for combat levels. Im not asking for the ability to have high power shots or disabling shots. Just the basic shot you get from day one. The only thing is youll get more damage based on the weapon you use. Not limited to a level 1 weapon.

I just started a bio engineer working to creature handling why is my cl going up for that. So a pet owner can operate a high level droid but the droid engineer can’t.
this is kind of how I look at droid engineer. yes it is a crafting profession but it also is a bit like creature handler.

I just thought we should be able to use combat droids. If we put on armor we should be encumbered and if we fired a weapon it should be hard to hit a target. Everyone can be a pilot and everyone should be able to use a combat droid. Not asking to be able to fight in pvp events. That’s what my bounty hunter is for.

Duke204,

I believe you are gaining levels because although BE is technically a crafter, it is a support role for other combat classes.

Creature Handler
Medic
Doctor
And maybe Bounty Hunter?

Either way think of it as the Marksman tree, you gain those levels for the tier above.

If you didn't then you would never reach max level.

BE has access to combat trees, Artisan doesn't.

Slightly off the BE topic though. I have noticed that on Mustafar I can go where I like and no aggro a thing. Maybe that could be implemented elsewhere?

I hope that helps.

Upvote, it's annoying to be so helpless when out trying to get resources, when i can craft some great combat droids but apparently have zero idea or ability to actually operate them.
