PVP Arena System

PVP Arena System
This idea/suggestion is Open. You can respond to ask questions or discuss the idea and either vote it up or down if you believe it should or should not be implemented, respectively. Popular suggestions and ideas will be considered by the development team to become reality in-game.
This prefix is applied by a Galactic Senator when they are officially sponsoring a post for consideration by the Development Team.
Proposal
An instanced PVP arena where you can queue as 2v2 or 3v3 and fight in a controlled environment. The queue would consider CL and possibly offer a rating system to offer some type of balance. The map(s) would be smaller than BFs and have tasteful LoS for strategic positioning.
Justification
Battlefield and world PVP participation are prone to heavy fluctuations in activity and tend to be dependent on significant organization
Motivation
Increase PVP content diversity using a system that's easier and quicker than battlefields and more balanced than world PVP
I think an arena system would be a wonderful addition to SWGR to provide additional PVP content that's even in numbers, can be regulated and modified, and offer opportunities for more diverse builds to engage in a competitive environment. I understand that this would require some significant development, like map(s), rewards, and a (hopefully better than BF) queue system. Jedi would have to have either a separate queue or logic to balance to teams. That can be discussed in this thread.
 
Massive upvote from me. An arena system would shine light on builds that normally fall off in group PvP. Thereby opening the door for more people to participate.
 
You want essentially new maps, new content, balance adjustments and all this when PvP already gets tons of developer time and attention, when you can't even get a group into BFs with you. Even if this was essentially a bigger game, it doesn't really fit what SWG is and will probably lead to yet even more more balance around PvP.

This isn't a PvP game, and most games that balance around PvP always tend to fail, and from what i've seen lately all the PvP balance has not only made PvE worse, but also made it less balanced than it was previously. It's already caused a lot of people to exit out and leave, and why can't you just make it yourselves using the system already in place?

PvP damage reduction has ruined all sense of "roles" that PvE has for example, giving DPS/Healer/(LolTanks) all the same damage reduction only makes everyone a tank, or similar, a dps is just as tanky as a tank. However now that melee takes almost the same damage as ranged now almost everyone just goes ranged because why go melee.

This destroying of roles through PvP balance has led to less things being in the game that not only solidified roles (like TKM/Lancer going in and reducing damage) through intimidate, and even Flamethrower AOE intimidate, no, lets just blanket reduce damage who needs tanks right, who needs melee?

I am also frustrated because it's so hard to get attention when we need yet another GCW update too. Making a new map requires time, and if tons of resources are going to PvP then other forms of content get left behind with little benefit.

Although I respect your concern over dev resources, this is not something that I expect would take "priority" over other more pressing matters. However, what developers are actually interested in developing plays a significant role in how they prioritize things, so I never assume what they are or aren't willing to do.

I would not* expect it to be super balanced, but it would have a very different meta than world PVP or BFs due to the conditions, so it would actually help encourage build diversity

I would agree with you if we were not updating and revamping GCW for the 4th-5th time.

The problem with a thing like Arena's is SWG has a lot of varied strengths of classes, and with what I mentioned above about stats it's already having sub issues. PvP *is* a consideration, the first combat update of my term was only PvP balance with no consideration to how it affected PvE.
 
un needed system. already invasions, BF's, watchtowers etc plenty of things in game hardly used as it is. dev's time could be placed on other things in game used more often or qol.

“Varied strengths of classes” is exactly why an arena system would be great. Because it would be an avenue for builds and classes to excel that currently aren’t very good for large group PvP. No need to rebalance anything. Just let a different meta exist from group PvP

Yeah, that's why I want better balance because SWG isn't meant to be played like that, it's meant to have solidified roles, and if a "role" is only good in one part of the game (out of several), it's probably just not well designed.

*Edit Here* Don't misinterpret me, taking what I said as "I want classes to be good at everything" when I clearly stated: "I want classes to be more attuned to their roles."

You aren’t the deciding factor for what swg should or shouldn’t be. Making all classes good at everything is a fools errand. It never was and never will be. Look at me I’m a poet
 
It would be an interesting addition at some point but even just looking at the project roadmap there’s so much PvP content coming “within the next couple of major updates” (quite literally every ‘project’ listed is PvP/GCW related in some way) it seems like something that should be way way way back of the queue.

1. Invasions and watchtower are utilized every single day

2. BFs are too dependent on having many members sign up and organized, which greatly contributes to its low utilization, so that actually makes an argument *for* arenas, not against

Heroics are the same and run every day. I think the problem is more lack of interest in that type of content. I can see it being a 'community event', but not active content.
 
I would like to say make a small addition - make it red v blue (already have it) and make it that it has a "gear locker" so folks can decide to use only base level gear so you get real fights not best gear wins kinda thing.
 
It’s a downvote from me. We already have plenty of PvP related content in here, that is used. In any case of a different red vs blue, or GCW. Is enough I think. If y’all wanted to shorten it down. Take down or go less in numbers for BF’s. Other content needs to be looked at and tweaked.
