PVP Arena System

PVP Arena System
This idea/suggestion is Open. You can respond to ask questions or discuss the idea and either vote it up or down if you believe it should or should not be implemented, respectively. Popular suggestions and ideas will be considered by the development team to become reality in-game.
This prefix is applied by a Galactic Senator when they are officially sponsoring a post for consideration by the Development Team.
Proposal
An instanced PVP arena where you can queue as 2v2 or 3v3 and fight in a controlled environment. The queue would consider CL and possibly offer a rating system to offer some type of balance. The map(s) would be smaller than BFs and have tasteful LoS for strategic positioning.
Justification
Battlefield and world PVP participation are prone to heavy fluctuations in activity and tend to be dependent on significant organization
Motivation
Increase PVP content diversity using a system that's easier and quicker than battlefields and more balanced than world PVP
I think an arena system would be a wonderful addition to SWGR to provide additional PVP content that's even in numbers, can be regulated and modified, and offer opportunities for more diverse builds to engage in a competitive environment. I understand that this would require some significant development, like map(s), rewards, and a (hopefully better than BF) queue system. Jedi would have to have either a separate queue or logic to balance to teams. That can be discussed in this thread.

That was funny and sadly mostly true.

If I assume development time is a finite quantity, I want the developers spending time on things like FRS, Hoth, Nar Shaddaa. They will yield far more returns on time than a modification or creation of a 2v2 or 3v3 arena system.

Furthermore, aside from an automated system of rewards (like tokens and a token reward table) and badges, I don't see what creation of this gets beyond a player organized tournament.

Honestly, PVP Battlegrounds should be popping. I know that Resto has a "low" population, but if we started getting people queued up for Battlefields, they SHOULD be run more often. I think the player mentality of "preform" teams and groups are limiting the activity of battlefields.

This gets an upvote from me, as someone who loved pushing glad seasonally on other games.

There are definitely things to consider both balance and time wise. But I don't see why trialling this on a Nagrand/Tol'viron layout map to start with and expanding based on player interest would be a bad thing to do.

If implemented I would like to see thorough conversation around CC/DR/Item CD/Jedi etc.

The suggestion of dropping BF numbers down is also a good one, but at that point you're not really battling in an arena, and rather wide-open spaces with little to no LOS which is not indicative of the content suggested.

As much as I think this would be a great addition to the game, you can honestly do this already with discord bots if people were that desperate enough for it they would use that and then use RVB for the fights.

Sure some of the battlefield locations are a bit ass but you can defo make it work for smaller numbers by gentlemaning out of certain areas or sticking inside for example the new battlefield just fight in the centre and don't destroy the bridges.

Would prefer to make changes to current pvp content to make people want to take part insted of potentially just adding more that sits unused, you say that RVB is actively getting used but lets be honest its SILVR and SOL cashing out on double tokens, the usual BF gamers arn't actively using it from the look of the export channel.

It stems from a gross misunderstanding of how dev resources/time works. Bug fixes and PVE adjustments can be done in conjunction with introducing new content, especially when staff is more robust than it's ever been.
Making a new map probably would require 3 weeks of work (straight) to create (So realistically several months), then another 3-4 weeks of testing and balance from multiple developers. Each GCW update took tons of work, and developer and player time to make happen.

After trying to do maps myself (and hoping my own gets released one day, though i'm waiting in line); I am not speaking from my butt. It's why Nar Shadaa is taking so long, it's a literal feat, even reusing assets. It's such a feat that even NGE developers barely did it when making side content.

I am still waiting for PvE content I made for Fuego (no spoilers) to be added from 8/28/2024, all the legendary equipment being finished, ectect.

One of the main reason you don't get new rewards is the constant reworks and rebalances of current content, aka: a lack of happiness or scope to make it right the first time. It doesn't mean it's not taking a gross amount of work, as even combat patches are designed around PvP now, which I think has made the balance *worse* overall, not *better*.

I can't even propose new rewards because *Well it's not balanced yet, we are still working on it!*. Or *We don't want that!*; Some time's its better to do it right the first time, even if its a little more work.

PvP will never be balanced.

To say it doesn't take Manpower though to do all this, recoding, ectect. It does. A lot.

What's funny is for example I predicted what would happen with GCW and got called silly for it, that is why I am so against new PvP* content.

This is a terrible Idea; Ultimately PVP is what the players make of it,

This whole PV is a waste of time , as this PV has already happened and created by players in game already in the past
Before the Petranaki tournaments there were PVP tournaments, from what i recall there were 2 , one in Mirage Plaza the other in Avalon or whatever is called now
It was 2v2 mixed and custom arenas were built to accommodate those fights so again what is stopping players from doing this already , if these 2v2 or 3v3 are so popular
then doing another event would be easy and be full of participants , unless of course the goal is again more Dev waste of time for something that will benefit a handful of players and im sure will be left to rot after a month
